National Farmers' Day in Ghana 🇬🇭

National Farmers' Day is Ghana’s annual celebration to honor farmers and fishers for their contribution to the country’s food security and economy.

Key Facts: When: First Friday of December every year. It’s a statutory public holiday.

Started: 1984 by the government under Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings to recognize the role of agriculture after years of decline.

Purpose: To reward hardworking farmers, encourage youth into agriculture, and showcase innovations in farming.

Regional & District Celebrations: Every region and district also honors their best farmers and fishers.

Why it matters: Agriculture employs over 40% of Ghanaians. The day highlights crops like cocoa, maize, rice, yam, cassava, and also livestock and fisheries. Theme changes yearly, but it usually focuses on "modernizing agriculture" and "food security".

It’s basically Ghana’s way of saying "thank you" to the people who feed the nation.
